My Last Huzzah...for Drawing II.

Here it is...my final for Drawing II. It's a self portrait...of me. LOL.

It's one of two pieces that I'm actually proud of from that class. This will be in the Senior Show fo' sho'. :)

I used tacky thrift store fabrics, a burlap sack, and a zillion buttons. This is what you call a poor art student's piece of work. The thing is about four feet tall....give or take(?).

Anyway...it looks much better in person when it's hanging. This photo makes it look stretched out because it's laying on the floor.

...I even left the price tags on it.

My Favorite Sculpture Pieces!

I don't think it's a coincidence that both of my favorite pieces from the semester are Aluminum. I LOVE the process. The first is a figure sculpture I did from a photo and the second is a styrofoam piece. Everyone sees a dog head or Piglet when they look at it. That makes me sad. I see a dark scene of two little wormy-things being rejected by an angel with her back turned on them. Eh...I guess it's up to interpretation.

Random Library Piece

This got into a student show in the library last semester. I just haven't gotten around to posting it yet. Everyone in Art Seminar submitted and the Huie Library staff chose who got in.

Student Competitive!

Guess what, guys!? I got in! On top of that, 2/3 of my pieces got in! I was SO surprised! The lucky pieces were "Bombs Away, Please!" and "Jackalope Wonderland". I'm so happy I thought I'd PROVE it. LOL. Here are my pieces in the gallery. "Jackalope Wonderland" was chosen for the President's Office Display Selections! Yay!!

Design II "Hard Edged, Split Complimentary" Painting

This project was....interesting, I guess. I liked the idea, I just procrastinated and I know I could do better. I definitely want to re-visit this concept in the near future. The assignment was to take a photo, posterize it, and paint the shapes using a split-complimentary color scheme. The original photo and my version are below:

Sculpture!

Lately in sculpture I've been working on...well....sculpture. Our first project of the semester was to make a sculpture of a partner's head. I was partnered with the loverly Susanna Kirk and this is what happened. Before you say anything, I know it doesn't look anything like her (mostly because the face is too long and the nose broke off during the plaster removal). I'm proud of it, still. I feel like I got the proportions of the face, head, and neck correct (for the most part) and that's a big step for me. Now...if only I could start doing that on the human body. THAT'S going to take a lot of work.

So...we made the Plasticine (it's like clay, pretty much) version, covered it in plaster, took the plaster off, dug the Plasticine out of the cracks, put the plaster parts back together, and poured concrete inside. After that dried, we pulled the plaster off (hammer and chisel plus my hands equals OUCH in more than one instance) and wah-lah! Susanna head in concrete. I broke off a LOT of stuff. Susanna can't hear or smell at the moment. But...I'm working on it. Today I hope to have it completed and patched up. After this...Styrofoam sculptures! This'll be really cool, though. The molten Aluminum will burn away the Styrofoam in the sand and take its place. I hope I can have pictures of that whole process up!
